Reintroducing Wolves to Wyoming

An Historic Conservation Achievement

Wolves and Wyomingites

According to a poll conducted by Wyoming Department of Game and Fish in 2003, more Wyomingites supported having wolves in Yellowstone than were opposed to them.

Half (50%) of residents agreed that wolves were a benefit to Wyoming, while only a third (36%) disagreed.  The 2003 WGFD survey reported that in 2001 an estimated 2,048 elk, 523 mule deer, 44 bison, 44 moose, and 44 antelope were killed by wolves in Wyoming's portion of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.  A majority of state residents polled (54%) agreed that this level of wolf predation was acceptable (33% disagreed).
